Coloring Pages

Pick a picture and color it in, with crayons, markers or a tap to fill. Every page has its word to color too. For ages 3 to 8.

How hard?
For grown-ups

Your child picks a page and colors it: the fill bucket colors a whole shape with one tap, and the crayon, marker and colored pencil draw with a finger or a mouse. Each page has its word in big hollow letters to color, and the voice says the word and spells it. Tapping a color says its name. When your child taps "I'm done", the picture goes into My art on this device and the game stops on "All done" with a line for you. After 3 pictures it suggests a break. There is nothing to win, no timer and nothing to collect.

Easy (age 3): the fill bucket is picked, the lines are thickest and the shapes are big. Normal (ages 4 to 6): every tool. Hard (ages 7 and 8): small shapes and patterns, and longer words, like KITTEN for the cat.

Make a page from a photo

Turn photos of your family, your child, a pet or your home into coloring pages. Pick one photo or several at once; each becomes a line drawing, with a slider for more or fewer lines, and you can add a word like MOM or a pet's name.

Your photos stay on this device. They are turned into line drawings right here in the browser and are never uploaded or sent anywhere. Delete them any time under My pages.

Child lock: tap the lock at the top right. The ways out and these grown-up buttons hide, and the back button stays in the game. To unlock, hold the lock for 3 seconds and answer a sum.

Why it's good for your child, what they learn, and how we designed it

Free, no ads, no sign-in. We count plays without names or anything that identifies your child, and your child is never recorded. Every picture is drawn for the arcade. Story friends and Classic friends come from old public-domain tales, books and cartoons, drawn in our own style; we are not connected with any studio or publisher.

Why it's good for your child

Coloring is active, hands-on play, and every page carries its word in big hollow letters your child colors too, while the voice says the word and spells it. Knowing letter names is one of the strongest early signs of later success in reading and spelling (National Early Literacy Panel 2008). The line on the "All done" screen gets you talking about the colors they chose, and a grown-up talking along is what helps children learn most (AAP, Zero to Three).

What they learn

Color names, said out loud with every color tapped, and the hand control to color inside a shape. The letters of each picture's word, from CAT and MOON to GINGERBREAD (Common Core RF.K.1.d, name upper-case letters), and on the Numbers pages, counting 1 to 10 things set out in rows of five like a ten frame (K.CC.B.4, K.CC.B.5). Pages made from your own photos turn your family, pets and home into pictures and words to talk about.

How we designed it for ages 3 to 8

Age 3 starts with the fill bucket, where one tap colors a whole shape, because precise dragging is hard under 5 (Hiniker 2015), and Easy pages have the thickest lines and the biggest shapes. There is no background music, no timer and nothing to collect, and the voice only names colors, tools and letters (Bus, Takacs & Kegel 2015; Radesky 2022). A picture ends when your child taps "I'm done", on a calm "All done" screen that suggests a break after 3 pictures, and photos you turn into pages stay on this device and are never uploaded.

About the coloring pages

Coloring Pages is a free online coloring book for kids. There are 52 pages in seven groups, and each one has its word under the picture in big hollow letters, so coloring a moon also means coloring M, O, O, N while the voice spells it.

  • Animals: cat, dog, fish, duck, turtle, snail and butterfly.
  • Plants and trees: tree, flower, cactus, leaf and pine tree.
  • Sky and space: sun, moon, star, planet, Earth and rainbow.
  • Numbers 1 to 10: the number, its word, and that many things set out in rows of five, from one ball to ten eggs.
  • Things that go: car, bus, train, boat, plane and rocket.
  • Story friends from old tales and rhymes: the three little pigs, the three bears, Humpty Dumpty, the gingerbread man, the tortoise and the hare, the little red hen, the cow that jumped over the moon and a billy goat.
  • Classic friends, the storybook friends from Classic Stories: the Steamboat Mouse and the Music Mouse (1928), Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet (1926), Alice, Dorothy and Toto, Pinocchio, Gertie the dinosaur, Mowgli and Robin Hood, each with a thing from their story.

Coloring Pages is an independent game. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by The Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros., or any other rights holder. Each Classic friend is drawn in our own style from the public-domain work it first appeared in (the 1928 cartoon Steamboat Willie, the 1926 book Winnie-the-Pooh, and older books and films), as plain line art with none of the later studio looks.

Tools: a fill bucket, a crayon, a marker you can see through a little where it overlaps, a lighter colored pencil, an eraser, undo and three brush sizes, with 16 colors including skin and hair tones for family pictures. More: Spell the Picture for spelling the words, Counting to 20 for counting, and preschool games.
